Fashion Do's and Dont's

It’s always useful to review some basic fashion “Do’s” and “Don’ts.” Today, we’ll cover what you should do. Next article, we’ll look at the things to avoid.

Let’s get right into those fashion “Do’s”:

1) Do match your accessories. When it comes to watches, belt buckles, necklaces, rings, and all other jewelry, you generally have two main options, gold or silver. Whichever you are more inclined to may depend upon your personal tastes or the particular outfit you are wearing. However, if you choose to wear one then make it the same one throughout your outfit.

2) Do match your belt to your shoes.  There is no time, place or very odd unfashionable dimension where it’s appropriate to wear a brown leather belt with black dress shoes. The colors of your shoes and belt do not need to be exactly the same, it is often hard to completely match subtle shades of brown, but it should be close. The only exception, and you are only allowed to be an exception if you are already highly fashionable, is when wearing sneakers or tennis shoes. Occasionally, mismatching a funky colored belt with a crazy pair of sneakers can be quite hip or retro, but if you don’t already subscribe to at least two major men’s fashion magazines you can forget this mismatch.

3) Do coordinate your leather accessories. Just as your leather shoes go with your leather belt, please make sure that if you adorn your wrist with a leather cuff that it also matches.

4) Do wear clothes that fit and accentuate your body.  Never purchase any article of clothing that you feel you might “grow into” or “slim down” to fit. For some unexplained reason there is an epidemic, especially in America, of men wearing clothes that are a few sizes too large for their body. The length of your pants should be short enough so that there is no excess material gathering around your ankles but long enough so that there is no over-exposure of the socks when standing. In the waist your pants ought to have a comfortable fit and never be too snug or too loose. If you can slide two of your fingers into the waistband with ease then you are probably doing just fine.  Dress shirts can be a bit trickier, depending on the type of shirt but there are a few easy fitting rules. When it comes to sleeve length your cuffs should come to about one inch below your wrist bone. In the neck the “two finger rule” applies again. When buttoned you should be able to slide two fingers into the collar of your dress shirt. Of course, you shouldn’t be going out with a completely buttoned up dress shirt unless you are also sporting a tie. As far as the body fit of your dress shirt goes it should definitely be comfortably snug. If your body size and shape does not lend itself well to standard shirt sizes then find a good tailor in your local area. An experienced tailor is worth his weight in gold. For a few extra dollars he can make you look like a perfect fit prince in any shirt that is close to your size. When it comes to suits it is best to leave sizing to the professionals and get measured at the suit store. Quality suit stores will do their alterations on site or have it sent to a nearby trusty tailor.

5) Do invest in some quality undergarments. Doesn’t it turn you on when you finally get to see all those lacy under things that the woman you sarged is wearing? Now imagine if she disrobed for you and she was wearing a pair of pizza stained Christmas themed boxers that she got five years ago. Just like it makes us a level more excited to see clean and quality women’s underwear the same rule applies to women. Don’t get stuck with last minute resistance because you have not gone underwear shopping since your mom held your hand in department stores. Buy yourself some quality underwear from labels like 2(x)ist, Calvin Klein, H&M, and Jockey. Opt for less bulky constructions like boxer-briefs and get materials that are nice to the touch, the 2(x)ist soy comfort trunks come to my mind. You’ll feel sexier just knowing that you are ready for a willing HB to rip your clothes off. Also, soy underwear! We might have a new conversation opener here!
